Keep St Johns Place green: trees, plants, and neighbors

We are Friends of St Johns Place, a group of neighbors who look after the 51 street trees on St Johns Place between Underhill Avenue and Washington Avenue in Prospect Heights, Brooklyn. We started in spring 2026 with a handful of people, three bags of trash, and found one knife we would rather not talk about. Since then we have surveyed and mapped every tree on the block, cleared and mulched the beds, planted bulbs and a new serviceberry in an empty pit, run tree care days with NYC Parks and Big Reuse, and organized the block to push the city on our rat problem.
All of it is volunteer. There is no staff and no office. This fund is what pays for the things volunteering alone cannot cover:
Tree guards to protect the youngest trees
Native plants, bulbs, compost, and mulch for the tree beds
Tools, gloves, bags, and watering gear the whole block shares
Printing for flyers
Block events that bring neighbors out
Every dollar goes to the block. We keep a record of what comes in and what goes out, and we are happy to share it with anyone who asks.
Giving toward Halloween candy? Please say so in the note with your donation. If only part of your gift is for candy, tell us how much, for example "$20 of this is for candy." We will buy the candy for the corner on Halloween, 4 to 8pm, and anything left over goes back into the trees.
Friends of St Johns Place is a volunteer association, not a registered nonprofit, so donations are not tax deductible. Not able to give? Come to a tree care day instead, that helps just as much.
The Kindbee promise
No fees here. We cover the card processing costs ourselves, so 100% of your donation gets to the cause. And every year, 25% of our net profit goes back to the nonprofits we support.
