-FROM SURVIVING TO THRIVING (FOR YOUNG MEN 13-18)
More than ever teens are struggling, addicted and commiting crimes. Often lacking direction, with unstable home lives and missing parents, financial / food instability... and little goals besides making it thru the day.
Our Goal:
To invest in the Future Generations of Nevada County- through opportunities, overcoming obstacles, access to resources and positive male mentorships- insuring these young men are successful, and celebrating when they are!
Surviving isn’t the goal- Thriving is!
Our Vision :
Open Doors Daily: A casual local downtown space open 7 DAYS A WEEK for young men to hang out, spend time, get a drink, and get connected to people and resources who can help them better their lives
Skill Sharing: A place where men in the community can just come hang out, talk, and teach practical skills, trades and hobbies. Along with a skill board to leave your name, skill and contact info so those interested in a specific skill or hobby can connect with someone.
A Needs Request Binder: A simple binder where young men can write down specific help they or their families need, allowing volunteers to look through it and fulfill those requests.
Job & Intern Board: A physical board featuring everything from quick odd jobs to permanent job postings with local businesses and internship opportunities with direct contact information.
A Resource Board: A massive board containing programs, resources and help available along including mental health and addiction services
Turning it Around: Active assistance and mentoring for young men who have juvenile criminal records, helping them get on the right path and secure a successful future before they become adults -thru mentors, community involvement and opportunities.
