Beat Breast Cancer with BEAT CA

We are two brothers who are twelve and fifteen, and with the help of our parents we have started a project called, BEAT CA, Bras Educate AgainsT CAncer. Our mission is to use bras as a tool to further empower women by educating them about breast cancer. To accomplish this mission we donate these bras at health fairs and community gatherings. These bras have a tag with a QR code to a link that teaches self-breast exams and also will have information on timely screening to catch the disease early. In addition, our table has breast models where we teach people how to actually do one.

     We started this project because cancer has greatly impacted our family. Our dad was diagnosed with testicular cancer in 2016 and 2019. My mom was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2019 which, unfortunately, required a double mastectomy and reconstruction. After her mastectomy, she could no longer use certain bras like ones with underwires. These new bras were emotionally difficult for her to just give away since they were a reminder of her old self. Now this project will allow our mom to know that her bra donations will have a meaningful impact. They will be an education platform to, hopefully, spare other women from what our mom went through.

     Every year, in the U.S., 300,000 women get diagnosed with breast cancer. Of those, approximately 13% die. Around 3.2 million people, in our home area of Los Angeles and Orange County, do not have health insurance, specifically in underserved communities, so therefore our focus will primarily be aimed at this population.  

Since we aren't an official 501c3, we struggle to raise funds for our organization. We are in desperate need of funds for new bras, breast cancer trinkets that we provide (when we don't have bra size), and a tent with our logo
