Angel funds for familes with unexpected emergancy surgery costs

Created by Brandie for Animals

I am a vet tech at an emergency vet clinic. Last week a family came into my hospital with a critically ill 10 month old puppy. His gums were pale he couldn't stand anymore. He had started to go into shock. The family approved the initial treatment plan for diagnostics we did x-rays and bloodwork. The cost of this plan 1400 dollars. 1400 dollars just to be able to tell them what is wrong but not to treat whatever it was. The culprit, a piece of corn cob that had almost made it'sway out on its own before becoming permanently lodged in the large intestine. The treatment, emergancy laparotomy to remove the obstruction and 48 hours of hospitalization in the ICU. The cost 6 to 7000 dollars. The family was couldn't afford to cover the additional 6 to 7000 and felt as though they were forced to make the only other humane option. Euthanize their very spoiled and loved 10 month old puppy. My heart was shattered, I couldn't bring myself to go over the euthanasia paperwork. I made a last stitch effort and called everyone I know who works with or for any animal rescue or agency. It was 2am I knew no one was going to answer but I couldn't do it I couldn't walk in that room and go over each painful question and euthanize their very young and otherwise healthy fur baby. I couldn't not this time. To my ecstatic surprise one person did answer they just happened to be awake, the last person I had to call someone I had never even spoken to before that night. So Ibplead my case and like the amazing person they are they felt exactly how I did about the situation. She felt very confident that her and I could secure the funding for the surgery by 6 or 7am. The only problem was in order for this sweet puppy to live and get a second chance he had to be surrendered to one of the rescues covering his surgery. My stomach turned I thought I had solved the problem only thing id really done was create a new one. How do I go in that room and ask they if they'd rather let him live, his surgery covered, but could never see him again if he did. Or they could opt to end his life and no one else would have him. How do you explain that to someone..we have the funds to save him but only if you still say goodbye. Everyday I see owners having to make heart breaking decisions to say goodbye to their beloved furry family members because emergency surgery is EXPENSIVE and the costs keep rising in an economy where most families are already struggling. It breaks my heart every day I want to create a change I want to create an organization of angel donors who can help me prevent some of these families from having to choose euthanasia instead of life and many more years worth of memories. After that night I can't let go of the thought that there has to be a way to fund families during an unexpected hardship without stripping them of their furry and very loved family friend in the process. So here I am starting my journey on a quest to be an angel on some pf these families lives. I want to walk in the room and say an anonymous donor covered you bill today, not.."so have you decided if you would like to euthanize or surrender you family member or do you need more time to think" Please help me support my mission and be an animals angel with me today.
