A Roof Over My Family’s Dream

My name is Philip Dimabo Brown, a hardworking Nigerian man living with a physical disability. My disability has never stopped me from dreaming, working, serving humanity, or believing that better days are possible.
For more than 10 years, I have been building a dream—one block, one step, and one sacrifice at a time: a home for my family.
What started as a simple dream of owning a place we could call our own has become a long and difficult journey. Because of my relatively low income and the many responsibilities that come with providing for a family, progress on the building has been painfully slow. There have been times when I could only watch the building stand unfinished, hoping that someday I would have enough resources to move it forward.
Today, the building has reached a stage where putting a roof on it is the next major step.
And this is where I am humbly asking for help.
I am not asking for someone to build a mansion for me. I am asking for support to help me protect what I have already worked so hard to build and bring my family closer to having a safe and permanent home.
The reality of life in Nigeria today is that house rents are becoming increasingly difficult for low-income families to afford. Many landlords are simply focused on the market rate, while the income of ordinary workers does not always rise at the same pace. Every time rent increases, families are forced to make painful choices between housing, food, education, healthcare and other basic needs.
I want to break away from that cycle.
I want my wife and children to have a place they can call home—a place where we can live with dignity and without the constant fear of another rent increase or the possibility of being unable to meet our housing obligations.
Despite living with a disability, I have continued to work and contribute to society. I have never believed that disability should mean the end of ambition. My journey has taught me that sometimes a person may need to move more slowly, but that does not mean the dream has to die.
For over a decade, I have carried this dream.
Now I am asking good-hearted individuals, friends, organisations, philanthropists, community leaders and anyone who believes in humanity to help me bring it closer to reality.
My goal is to raise enough support to complete the roofing and continue the remaining work so that, by December 2027, my family can finally move into our own home.
Every contribution, no matter how small, will bring us one step closer.
If you cannot contribute financially, a share of this story, a recommendation to someone who may be able to help, or simply a prayer for us is also deeply appreciated.
I have come this far through determination, sacrifice and faith. I am hoping that, with the kindness of others, I can complete this journey.
I am not asking for a handout. I am asking for a helping hand to complete a dream that has taken more than ten years of my life to build.
A roof may look like just sheets, timber, nails and labour to some people. But to me, it represents security, dignity, stability, family and hope.
I believe that one day, I will stand under that completed roof with my family and look back at this difficult journey with gratitude.
Please help me put a roof over our dream.
With sincere gratitude.
